The Wedding of Keri & Casey Crown

We would like to share some images and the movies for Keri & Casey.  You may remember the happy couple enjoyed a quaint wedding in Carmel, CA at the Church of the Wayfarer on June 30th.  A reception at the Chateau Jillian Winery followed for family and friends.  Well we just did the Couture Session this last weekend as the happy couple has been honeymooning in Europe.  We had a great time getting to hang out with this crazy couple again.  Watch and enjoy! simply click the movie play button to enjoy.  Since music is inlcuded make sure you turn off alternate music for the full experience!

Kailan & Ryan's wedding day!

Img_0076We are in Pismo today photographing the wedding day of Kailan Park and Ryan Carr.  We came down last night snarfed a little food at McClintock's rolled back to the room and crashed.  We woke up today to the most glorious weather.  I walked around a bit and couldn't help but check on the wedding stuff.  The tables in the tent look great- definitely Kailan's style and the chairs are ready for the ceremony.  To answer the question of what does a bride do on the morning of her wedding.... you cruise down to the desk to get the key to the honeymoon suite!  I'll share a couple quick shots from walking around this morning.... but no more because no body gets to see that bride after the wedding magic begins!  We are headed down to San Diego tonight so depending on what time we get there we will see if I get to post tonight or tomorrow a couple images of the happy couple!

We would also like to thank Lori & Scott Park for their hospitality and the chance to share in another Park family wedding!  See you guys in a couple hours!

Yo Ho Yo Ho a Pirate Party for us!

We decided to have a fun little pirate  party with some friends.   We had a great time drinking, feasting and dancing the night away!  Little Michelle decked out as a pirate serving girl passed out hors de vors including mango & pineapple skewers, tomato cheese & basil skewers and my fav... lots of shrimp cocktails!

There were lots of great costumes and I must say Stan in his satin ruffle shirt was a favorite!  Melissa even wore a great pirate bikini!  The bar was stocked and the rum poured freely.  We even made grog, a favorite pirate drink, for everyone to try.  We feasted on pit beef, yummy chicken in sauce, rice, brocoli salad, tomato- cucumber salad, green salad, rolls and more.  Hodels hooked me up for dinner!  It was perfect.  I made the appetizers and helped with the drinks and Hodels made sure I didn't have to do anything for dinner.  Little Michelle helped serve it all up and as a host I still got to fully enjoy my party.  Stan and his beautiful wife Sharon kicked off the dancing and even if we couldn't dance we were out there having fun trying!  A  few people ended up dancing in the pool with warm towels waiting.  Kevin Rush kept the tunes going until late in the evening and we all crashed.  I must say sleeping in today and taking a weekend off (the first in forever) was fabulous!

Thanks everyone- friends, neighbors and family- for a great time and we can't wait for next year... Barb already has suggestions!

When does "trashing the dress" go too far?

A few weeks back we were asked by KERO channel 23 to share a trashing the dress session.  They had heard about the trend and were curious why a bride would do this.  Erin was very nice and we said we would ask one of our up coming "anti bridals" if they cared to share.  None of our clients felt like having cameras (well TV cameras around) during their session.  I didn't think much of it and KERO was able to find another photographer who got a former bride from out of town to do the session for the KERO piece.
The other day I sat with my piƱa colada and came to a realization.  When we do "trash the dress" we can them anti bridals.  Why?   Because we are not setting out to simply trash a dress.  We are setting a mood which may include getting wet, but the point of the session is not to just get dirty.  We aren't taking brides to roll in the mud, sit in dirt or flap around in muddy water.  I am all over rolling on the beach in sand, floating elegantly in a clean water (although it is harder in those gowns than you think) or being sexy and playful in a fountain.  These things make sense for the couples that do them because it IS a glimpse of who they are.  Most brides I know aren't flopping around in a mud puddle just for the heck of it.  The "trashing the dress" trend has gotten, like most things, a little out of control.  It started with a few talented photographers that were being artistic setting brides in unique locations.  It seems to have evolved into what freaky thing can I get a bride to do this time.  No thought or relevance to the poor bride that has agreed to put her gorgeous and coveted gown on the line.  New photographers trying to promote their name are jumping on the trend with no regard for the art or the bride.  While I understand many are going for a "fashion" look, often it is coming across a little to trashy.  (yes, I do read the many emails you guys have sent with links to the knock off's of images we have done.) So we will continue with our anti-bridals, and yes, some of those may involve water or whatever calls to my artistic side.  I do, however, promise not to use my brides as Guinea Pigs for the latest trend.

Happy Birthday Madison

We had a great time with some of Madison's "crew" as the kids celebrated pirate style!  They woofed down some food indoor since it was 109 and then outdoors for some pool time and mocktails.  Everyone looked fabulous in their pirate costumes and enjoyed swiming.  Before anyone says it.... the tiki torch is far away from the tiki hut- it only LOOKS like it is about to go up in flames... darn photographer!
