Watching Sports in Bakersfield...

Now that everyone is back in school and you don't have enough schedules floating around the house we thought we would post some of the schedules an d links for Bakersfield's own great teams.  These can make for great family outings or how about a first date- face it - if they are boring at least the game will be good!

How about Hockey? I always have fun shooting these guys....
The Condors!  They will kick off again  with an open House on Sunday October 7th, Pre Season game with Las Vegas October 11th .  Click the Condors link for the  web schedule or print out your own.

Feeling like a little Basketball? How about the Bakersfield Jam.
They will start in November and have a rather full schedule from the looks of it.    Bakersfield Jam Schedule.

The Blitz
We can't forget our arena football team!  they are enjoying some off time right now but I'm sure the new schedule for 2008 will be on the site soon.

Soccer...eh football... well I guess it is Soccer here!
Bakersfield Brigade  these guys are in the off season enjoying a much needed break as well.  They do have a schedule feature on the website so check back after the holidays.  One thing i  didn't know is that they have a great family package- $35 for 4 tickets, slice of pizza and a a 22 oz drink.  That is cheaper than going to the movies!
We also have to share that they have started a Recreational Youth League!  Yep!
So now if you aren't ready for club, but still want to play you can!  Check it out!

Anybody feel like driving fast?  OK watching people driving fast?

Bakersfield Speedway has something going on all the time over the summer!  Check out the schedule to see what might fit for you next weekend.   It looks like there are several nationals coming in October.

Great Lunches for Back to School

CONFETTI TURKEY SALAD SANDWICH

This salad recipe starts with roasted turkey leftovers or a 3/4-inch-thick slice purchased from the deli section at the grocery store.

The flavorful punch comes from crunchy fresh vegetables and dried sweetened cranberries.

Ingredients
2 cups (about 3/4 pound) cooked turkey
1 green or yellow pepper, seeded and diced
1 small carrot, peeled and shredded
1 stalk celery, chopped
2 scallions, minced (optional)
1/3 cup dried sweetened cranberries
1/3 to 1/2 cup mayonnaise
6 sandwich rolls

Directions
Remove the skin from the turkey and cut the meat into 1/2-inch cubes. In a large bowl, toss the turkey, pepper, carrot, celery, scallions and cranberries. Stir in just enough mayonnaise to hold the mixture together.

Slice the sandwich rolls in half and hollow out a portion of each center to keep the turkey salad from spilling out of the sandwiches. Makes 4 1/2 cups, enough for six sandwiches

RAINBOW KABOBS

You don't need to spend lots of time peeling and chopping to make these colorful fruit kabobs. Instead of purchasing whole fruits, you can buy a container of sliced or cubed fruit from the salad bar section of your supermarket or delicatessen.

You'll need 6 to 8 pieces per skewer. Firm fruits such as melon, pineapple, kiwi and oranges work well. For the skewers, you can simply use plastic drinking straws.

To make each kabob, pinch the end of a straw and push it through a piece of fruit. Slide the fruit to the other end of the straw.

Add more fruit to fill the skewer with a range of colors.

Individually cover each kabob with plastic wrap and refrigerate until it's time to pack your child's lunch. Two skewers equal 1 serving.

Great Snacks that are easy to pack:

• Vegetable sticks with a small container of salad dressing for dipping
• Fresh fruit
• Pretzels
• Celery sticks filled with cream cheese or peanut butter and raisins
• Fruit yogurt
• Pudding
• Crackers--plain or with peanut butter or cheese
• Cheese sticks
• Graham crackers
• Fortune cookies
• Dried fruit
• Fruit leather
• Nuts
• Tortilla chips with a small jar of salsa
• Small bags of popcorn

If you are tired of the same PB&J everyday- try one of these combinations: wit your PB...
•Sliced bananas
• Brown sugar
• Honey
• Fluff or marshmallow creme
• Bacon - OK I know it sounds weird but some people love it.
• Sliced apples
• Raisins
• Grated thin carrots
• Wheat germ and honey

OR try making your PB&J on banana bread next time!

Dint forget you can  keep the drinks in the freezer ab and add them to the lunch bag- stays cold until lunch and keeps the rest of the lunch cold too!

Try putting peanut butter on both pieces of bread and the jelly in the middle so the bread doesn't get soggy.

Cream cheese is yummy and wont make the bread soggy for sandwiches too.

Have a picky eater that doesn't like crust- do what I used to do for Madison- use a large cookie cutter to shape the sand which and get rid of the crust!

Always fun to update the girls....

Browngirls005rr_3 Paula from The yoga Space needed to update the girls photos.... no problem!  Little did she know I was going to toss her in one of the dresses too!   We all had a great time and took some lovely portraits of the girls..... and I got to cinch little miss yoga into what I think was a teenagers prom gown!  What you don't see is the clamp and ribbon cinching her up!  Breathing was not a priority.  Don't worry guys to make up for all those yoga poses I made her balance on one hip and  each of her arms are laying there, but she can't use those adorable girls to help hold her up.  I might not want to go to one of her classes for awhile for fear of what she might come up with for me!

Some quick proofs from the session with the girls...
